Touting itself as “Carmel’s most romantic restaurant,” Casanova’s charming, rustic interior boasts four dining rooms, which keeps the atmosphere as intimate as possible. Serving a blend of the cuisine of Southern France and Northern Italy, the restaurant also boasts a wine cellar (dug, they say, “by hand,” which implies something other than shovels,) that houses 30,000 bottles. Your party of eight can reserve a spot in the Vincent Van Gogh room, to have the honor of dining at the same table the artist did when he resided at the Auberge Ravoux outside Paris. Request a tour of the wine cellar--the reason Casanova is the annual recipient of the Wine Spectator’s Grand Award. Don’t get drunk and cut off your ear.
