Danube

Danube – New York City
Chef David Bouley has created a deeply romantic, lush hideaway around the corner from his other restaurant, Bouley. As the name suggests, the food is Austrian, the surroundings suggest being enveloped in a Gustav Klimt painting, and the service impeccable. (The bar area is so cozy and inviting it’s almost a disappointment to be immediately shown to your table.) The menu is thoughtfully segmented: You can focus on “Austrian,” in which case you must order the braised tender beef cheeks in a Zweigelt wine sauce with garlic chive spaetzle, or you can peruse the “Chef’s Market Choice,” and “Modern Eclectic,” which is always changing. The wine list, naturally reflects the Austrian region, be adventurous and ask the charming sommelier to suggest an appropriate half bottle to accompany your appetizers or entrees.
