Latil's Landing
Latil’s Landing – Darrow, LA
Located about an hour’s drive from New Orleans in the bayous along the Mississippi, Latil’s Landing is a special “destination” restaurant. Located in the renovated Houmas House Plantation (which was, at the time of the Louisiana Purchase, producing sugar), the mansion was once The French House, originally built in the 1770s by Alexander Latil. To dine at Latil’s Landing is to be surrounded by spectacular gardens, fine antiques, old china, lavish artworks--not to mention the 3,000 bottles of wines stored in old water cisterns. Chef Jeremy Langlois, a 26-year-old Baton Rouge native who has trained in restaurants across the South, serves up what he describes as “Nouvelle Louisiane.” Do order the coffee-marinated rack of lamb, or the duck breast atop candied yams with praline-pecan sauce. And you must have the mint julep custard for dessert. Arrive early and enjoy a game of croquet out on the grounds.
