Tapawingo – Ellsworth, Michigan
In 2003, J.R. Apple Jr., food writer for the New York Times said Tapawingo “may be the best restaurant anywhere in the country that’s a four-hour drive from the closest major city.” In 2004, Saveur pronounced it “the best in the whole Midwest.” With a menu that changes daily, Tapawingo strives for invention with dishes as varied as veal sweetbreads with licorice poached rhubarb, Tasmanian sea trout, and rabbit crepinettes with braised Kurobuta pork cheeks. The restaurant (whose name is the Native American name for the land,) sits on the edge of Lake Michigan, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. The dining room features large windows and a fireplace; for extraromance, book the private dining room with its own terrace, and be sure to visit the wine room. *Edit: Flat out stupid...No one cares about how big of a jerk you can look at an establishment. Best restaurants?? not best inflated egos.
Tapawingo is a fantastic restaurant, in fact it is one of my favorites. I give it a 4****star+ rating!!!!!!
