When the Museum of Modern Art reopened its doors after a $425 million renovation, there was almost as much of a stampede to reserve a table at its new Danny Meyer restaurant (he of Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern and others) as there was to see the new museum. How many restaurants, after all, can boast a glass wall with an up-close view of one of the most valuable sculpture gardens in the world? Executive chef Gabriel Kreuther (formerly of Jean Georges) oversees the kitchen, and the menu is largely prix fixe, three courses or the chef’s tasting menu of seven. Note: The Bar Room is easier to get into (although you’re out of luck regarding that view) and the menu is less expensive: the $14 steak tartare with quail egg is delicious.
